Please vote for your favourite data modelling tool, whatever it is #PowerDesigner #ERwin #Idera #ERStudio

The people at ERwin pay a lot more attention than some other vendors do to promoting their product, including asking their users to vote for them in various polls or awards. Currently they’re asking their users to vote for ERwin in the “Readers’ Choice Awards” for Database Trends and Applications.

The following data modelling tools are listed in the poll –
PremiumSoft Navicat Data Modeler, Dell Toad Data Modeler, IDERA ER/Studio, ERwin, TimeXtender, SAP PowerDesigner.

That’s an interesting selection of tools, partly due to the absence of any tool from IBM, and also because there are two I’ve barely even heard of.

Voting closes on May 20th, so make sure to vote for your favourite modelling tool, whatever it is. My message is the same as it is to every registered voter in the UK today (lots of elections on in the UK today) – cast your vote and be heard!

If you don’t tell them, they won’t know that you want it

What #PowerDesigner articles would you like to see in the #ISUGTECH Journal?

The Independent SAP Technical User Group (ISUG-TECH : http://my.isug.com/home) publishes a monthly Journal, which currently has zero PowerDesigner content. We have several authors lined up to write articles for the Journal, but what shall we write about?

  • What topics would you like us to delve into?
  • is there a feature of PD you’d like to have explained?
  • do you want samples of automation and / or customisation?
  • how about information on the types of model you don’t use? If so, which ones?

Trust and Traceability – Building an Information Architecture with SAP #PowerDesigner

Here’s a date for your diary – on February 5th, Sandhill Consultants will present a webinar aimed at those of you who want to know about building an Information Architecture in PowerDesigner.

The webinar will introduce three key approaches to moving beyond data modeling with SAP PowerDesigner that will allow you to trace your data lineage and analyze impacts on other systems, such as Data Warehousing, Transactional, ERP, COTS, among others.

#PowerDesigner users- save $$, pre-register for ISUG-TECH 2015, and tell them what you want to see presented

I attended ISUG-TECH in Atlanta for the first time last year, and I think it was the first time they’d had a dedicated track for PowerDesigner. All of the PowerDesigner sessions were well attended, and I know there were some conference attendees (like me) who were only really interested in PowerDesigner. Most of the PowerDesigner speakers (like me, again) and some of the attendees weren’t from the USA, so there was a great international atmosphere.

It would be fantastic if we could expand that experience to more sessions and more people – where else will you find a whole week of PowerDesigner sessions, where else can you meet people facing the same issues as you do, whatever the type of modelling you do in PowerDesigner?

For 2015, they’ve decided to allow people to pre-register for the conference, which gives you $200 discount if you decide to actually attend the conference; you’ll also be able to have your say about what you’d like to see. Here’s what Mike Harrold, Executive Director of ISUG-TECH says about it:

“Pre-registration gives us an opportunity to solicit input from the community about which topics they want to see covered during the technical break-out sessions at the conference, which is important to both ISUG-TECH and the community to ensure the best possible content at the conference. There is absolutely no cost to pre-register and in return we’re extending a $200 discount to all those that do pre-register which can be applied to their actual registration fee later this year.”
