Trust and Traceability – Building an Information Architecture with SAP #PowerDesigner

Here’s a date for your diary – on February 5th, Sandhill Consultants will present a webinar aimed at those of you who want to know about building an Information Architecture in PowerDesigner.

The webinar will introduce three key approaches to moving beyond data modeling with SAP PowerDesigner that will allow you to trace your data lineage and analyze impacts on other systems, such as Data Warehousing, Transactional, ERP, COTS, among others.

• Reconciling disparate data systems
• Reduce data complexity via data modeling
• Reuse data assets

Sandhill Consultants are PD resellers in North America, and I’m happy to say that I help them to provide PD services and training.

#PowerDesigner users- save $$, pre-register for ISUG-TECH 2015, and tell them what you want to see presented

I attended ISUG-TECH in Atlanta for the first time last year, and I think it was the first time they’d had a dedicated track for PowerDesigner. All of the PowerDesigner sessions were well attended, and I know there were some conference attendees (like me) who were only really interested in PowerDesigner. Most of the PowerDesigner speakers (like me, again) and some of the attendees weren’t from the USA, so there was a great international atmosphere.

It would be fantastic if we could expand that experience to more sessions and more people – where else will you find a whole week of PowerDesigner sessions, where else can you meet people facing the same issues as you do, whatever the type of modelling you do in PowerDesigner?

For 2015, they’ve decided to allow people to pre-register for the conference, which gives you $200 discount if you decide to actually attend the conference; you’ll also be able to have your say about what you’d like to see. Here’s what Mike Harrold, Executive Director of ISUG-TECH says about it:

“Pre-registration gives us an opportunity to solicit input from the community about which topics they want to see covered during the technical break-out sessions at the conference, which is important to both ISUG-TECH and the community to ensure the best possible content at the conference. There is absolutely no cost to pre-register and in return we’re extending a $200 discount to all those that do pre-register which can be applied to their actual registration fee later this year.”

Death by Spreadsheet Part 2 – now on TDAN

In October’s edition of TDAN, I described a scenario in which a team of analysts and business experts are putting together the requirements for a complex new application. This could be a bespoke application, or an “off-the-shelf” package. The analysis team had decided not spend money on modelling tools.

In this month’s edition of TDAN, I look at the problems this causes, and what to do about it. Nothing new, in principle, but it’s surprising how few organisations realise that.
